websiteMoffitt011206-127.jpgThe Department of Nutrition is composed of a team of registered and licensed dietitians who specialize in the nutrition care of the cancer patient. These nutrition specialists function as an integral part of the interdisciplinary medical team at Moffitt to provide high quality care and comprehensive medical nutrition therapy.

Dietitians provide nutrition for oncology patients across the spectrum of care including the following:

  • Prevent and treat malnutrition
  • Counsel on diet and cancer prevention
  • Manage nutritional side-effects of treatment
  • Aid in nutrition recovery following treatments
  • Counsel on dietary supplements and CAM therapies
  • Protect patients from nutrition quackery and scams
  • Clarify confusing and contradictory health claims
  • Provide tube feeding recommendations and monitoring
  • Modify diets for patients with malabsorption
  • Promote food safety for patients with decreased immunity
  • Aid in weight control for cancer survivors
  • Provide nutrition counseling for cancer survivors
  • Counsel on drug-diet interactions
